Best time to drive
December to February is peak snow. Roads are ploughed on the main routes, but high passes can close, so watch the forecast.

Practical tips
- Use winter tyres or chains on mountain roads.
- Carry a blanket and food in case of a hold.
- Start late morning after ice clears.
- Never let the tank drop below half on remote roads. Fuel stations thin out sharply once you leave the main G30 corridor, and a few only take cash or UnionPay.
